Coach Panther, Phil Carmical

Best known around Austin as "Panther", a respected running, triathlon, and duathlon coach,  Phil began coaching in 2004 and is the founder of Austin Duathletes and one of the original coaches for Rogue Training Systems. Panther has coached duathletes and triathletes to national and world championships, has helped dozens of runners qualify for the Boston Marathon, and has coached runners to sub-3 hour marathons and sub-5 hour century bike rides. 

He has also worked with literally hundreds of first-time marathoners and half marathoners, helping them cross the finish line and achieve their dreams.  He has also worked with a number of athletes with physical issues, such as diabetes, heart problems, blood pressure problems, and other issues that are normally obstacles to running.  In every case, his athletes have not only completed marathons, but PR’d by 20, 30, or even 40 minutes. 
Panther is a certified personal trainer, a certified running coach with the RRCA, and previously a certified coach for USA Cycling.  Having been on the cover of Austin Runner, featured in The Austin American-Statesman, appeared on Fox’s local news show, “Good Day Austin,” and written about on numerous running and multi-sport websites,

Panther is, himself, an accomplished runner and duathlete. He was the 2006 Texas state champion pfor his age group in duathlon, winner of the Texas “Cyclist of the Year” award for 2006 from Clif Bar, was 2nd place overall finisher and 1st overall masters finisher in the 2010 New Braunfels Marathon and 2nd overall finisher in the 2010 Double Decker Marathon.  He was the overall masters winner of two trail running series, the Rogue Spring Series and the Rogue Fall Series, winning first overall masters in 4 of 5 races.  With many other top placings in races and too many top placings by his athletes to count, Panther is one of the best-known coaches and trainers in the Austin area.
